The Land

High Peak Game Estate has a varied game habitat comprised of tussock-clad hill country interspersed with native beech forest and the inimitable matagouri shrub. Encompassing four-and-a-half thousand acres of prime hunting country, the native grasslands, forest-filled valleys and clear mountain streams provide the ideal habitat for populations of New Zealand’s wild animals.

Rising to over three thousand feet in altitude with a fifteen-hundred foot vertical rise, High Peak is well serviced with four-wheel drive tracks. While this provides good mobility for hunting and touring parties alike, most hunting is accomplished on foot and thus a reasonable standard of fitness is required. To complete the picture, we have our own bush hut set deep in the heart of the estate, perfect for an overnight escape from reality or a quick cup of tea while a storm passes overhead.

Set against the native bush backdrop of the Big Ben and Torlesse ranges, the majority of the game estate’s boundary is conservation land, providing a genuine sense of isolation and seclusion as well as a spectacular setting for your occasion.
